Esterka, Berecci, Langrock. About the Legendary and Former Residents of the House at 46 Krakowska Street (PL)

25.06.2025 - 16:00 / The Ethnographic Museum in Kraków, Esterka’s House, ul. Krakowska 46

The building at ul. Krakowska 46 is one of the oldest and most recognisable houses in Kazimierz. Its cellars and foundations most likely remember the times of King Casimir the Great, while oral tradition has linked it to his mistress, the legendary Esterka. During the lecture, we will tell you why it once stood at Kazimierz market square, and today it is several dozen meters away from plac Wolnica, and what it has to do with Bartolommeo Berrecci – the court artist of King Sigismund the Old. We will also reveal why we are so grateful to the owner of “Esterka’s House”, Joel Langrock, for building a shaft for tapping beer over a hundred years ago, and why the oldest employees of the Museum claim that Krakow taxi drivers remember this place with great fondness.

Free admission.
