Jewish Dances (PL / EN)
25.06.2025 - 11:00 / Festival Tent, ul. Józefa 36The first Jewish Dance Workshop at Jewish Culture Festival took place in 1994 and was run by Michael Alpert from the group Brave Old World. The workshop quickly became popular with the Festival participants.
In 1995, there was another Workshop with Michael Alpert and the huge crowd of dancers barely fit into the hall of what is today Hevre restaurant. I was among the participants. My fascination with the atmosphere of joy and fun pushed me to start learning Jewish dance from then on. I took part in all the Jewish Dance Workshops at our Festival.
They were run by outstanding experts and enthusiasts of Jewish dance: Michael Alpert, Leon Blank, Jill Gellerman, Steve Weintraub, Avia Moore, Felix Fibich.
Each of the hosts presented a different tradition and perspective on the history and contemporary character of their dance: from traditional klezmer and Yemenite dances, through Israeli dances, to contemporary dances of the American Hasidim.
During the my workshop, I would like to teach this year’s participants everything I have learnt from my Masters. So we will dance the following dances: bulgar, hora, freylekhs, Patch Tants, kolomyjka chusidl and sher.
