Kites of Hope and Renewal – an exhibition of works by Michal Nachmany (EN / PL)

25.06.2025 - 15:00 / JCC Krakow, ul. Miodowa 24

This exhibition brings a message of hope and renewal focuses on the symbolism of the kite. Its creator, Michal Nachmany, is a self-educated artist who creates her works in the technique of collage. Her works were presented at individual exhibitions in the US, Taiwan, and Poland. She is also an educator teaching contemporary, Biblical, and liturgical Hebrew in New York and online.

Why kites? Because they encourage us to look to the future. In moments of pain and uncertainty they bring our sight up to the sky – the space of freedom, possibility, and renewal. The symbolism of a kite is in its ability to rise against the wind, reminding us of the power of dreaming against all odds.

The exhibition tells a story of continuity and faith. Each kite brings with it a special wish, story, prayer, or memory. It is like a delicate thread which connects us with one another and with the skies above. Like a kite needs wind to rise, we too need to take our strength from the community of human spirits, interpersonal bonds, and the faith in the power of light overcoming darkness.

A previous exhibition by Michal Nachmany presented at JCC Krakow in 2017 titled “Keep Away from Children” was a story of a family migration from Międzyrzec Podlaski to Jerusalem in the 1930’s and about the establishment of the State of Israel.
