Nachum
26.06.2025 - 22:00 / Tempel Synagogue, ul. Miodowa 24
Nachum is an ensemble which selected the work of a Jewish composer from Rzeszów – Nachum Sternheim – as the starting point for their music. His compositions, although taught and sung in the USA, Israel and found in many anthologies of Yiddish songs published internationally, remain practically unknown in Poland. Drummer Miłosz Pękala (Kwadrofonik, Mitch & Mitch) played around with them giving them an avant-garde character on the line between jazz, pop music and experimental music.
The whole is complemented by arrangements by Noam Zylberberg, a pianist who has lived and composed in Warsaw for many years, fascinated by Polish popular music of the interwar period, which he arranges and performs with his Mała Orkiestra Dancingowa.
The women of the ensemble include Ola Bilińska (Babadag, Berjozkele, Bye Bye Butterfly), a vocalist known for her contemporary interpretations of traditional music, including Yiddish songs, and Ola Rzepka (Drekoty, Pogodno, Alte Zachen) – a drummer and composer working in the domain of alternative and contemporary improvised music.
The concert line-up is completed by saxophonist, composer and producer Piotr Łyszkiewicz.
